El Hoyo is named for the huge collapsed crater on its flank. The route crosses old lava fields and volcanic ridgeline with big views over the Maribios chain, finishing at the cool waters of Lake Asososca. Do it as a long day hike or camp overnight and add a Cerro Negro descent.
